About me

Disciplined designer.
Accessibility specialist.

I've spent my career at the intersection of design rigour and emerging technology - from delivering services to the GDS Service Standard and GOV.UK Design System at Kirklees Council, to facilitating blockchain experiments inside one of the UK's largest banks, to achieving RNIB Tried & Tested accreditation for EE's app, to exploring glassmorphism before Apple made it fashionable.

What drives me is staying at the cutting edge - not for its own sake, but because the best design solutions tend to live there. I'm drawn to problems that are genuinely complex: financial products where a confusing journey costs someone money, accessibility challenges where a wrong decision excludes real people, design systems where one good component decision scales to thousands of users.

What I do

I work across four interconnected areas. They're not separate specialisms - they inform each other constantly. A strong design system makes accessibility scalable. Accessibility knowledge makes product design more robust. Experience with emerging technology keeps both fresh.

Accessibility

WCAG 2.2 auditing, inclusive design, RNIB accreditation, and organisational advocacy. I've helped teams build accessibility into process rather than bolt it on afterwards.

Design Systems

Component architecture, documentation, and cross-team adoption. Building the foundations that scale quality across products and reduce the cost of getting things wrong.

Product Design

End-to-end ownership of complex digital products - from research and strategy through to polished, production-ready interfaces. Comfortable across the full lifecycle.

Emerging Technology

Designing for AI-powered products and staying at the cutting edge. From blockchain experiments at LBG to AI tools built for real users - I'm drawn to new problem spaces.

Currently

I'm open to senior product design roles and freelance engagements - particularly in high compliance industries, design systems, or accessibility. With the European Accessibility Act now in force, organisations trading in Europe have a legal obligation to meet accessibility standards. I help teams build that capability properly - not as a retrofit, but as a foundation.

If you have an interesting problem, I'd like to hear about it.

Beyond the work

I'm highly disciplined and self-directed by nature - shaped partly by marathon running, which has a way of teaching you that consistency beats inspiration. I bring the same mindset to design work: show up, do the thinking, iterate until it's right.

When I'm not designing, I'm running marathons, watching Coventry City home and away, or planning the next trip somewhere new.
